THE OREGON SCIENTIFIC WMR 968 WEATHER STATION

The current weather conditions for Leyland, (approx 5 miles south of Preston) Lancashire are measured by a Oregon Scientific WMR Weather Station.

There are no wires going to and from your main unit where all the data is being transmitted to. It's very similar to bluetooth or infrared. All the weather instruments are to be positioned within range of 100m of each other in an open area.

The package includes the main unit, anemometer, thermo-hygrometer, rain-gauge, bar o-thermo-hygrometer and a 12V AC adapter. The thermo-hygrometer and the rain gauge are powered by solar transmitters (STR928N). The anemometer is powered by a solar transmitter (STR928). Batteries are installed as a back up.

The main unit provides you with a 12-24hr weather forecast icon, a radio controlled calendar clock and the readings of the current weather conditions which are being transmitted from each weather instrument.

Wind speed and wind direction is measured by and transmitted from the anemometer which is installed outdoors.

Outside temperature, outside dew point temperature, wind chill and outdoor humidity is measured by and transmitted from the thermo-hygrometer which installed outdoors. The wire you see below on the picture makes it's way to one of the solar transmitters which is installed outdoors with it.

Indoor temperature, indoor dew point temperature, indoor humidity and barometric pressure is measured by and transmitted from the bar o-thermo-hygrometer. This is installed indoors.

Precipitation (rainfall) is measured by the rain gauge installed outdoors which then transmits the data to the main unit.

With the main unit you are able to set your own weather alarms to alert yourself to a certain weather condition or situation. For example, if you wanted to alert yourself when the wind speeds touched gale force, you can set an alarm on the wind speed of e.g. 35mph and if the wind speed reaches that mark, the alarm will activate.

More pictures and photos of these instruments will be uploaded to the website in the near future to give you an example of the weather station. I purchased mine from Meteorologica. Click the banner below. They have some fabulous gadgets not just full weather stations.

Here is a smaller version of a weather station which you can have for only £34.99 or visit Meteorologica for more advanced Weather Items
